Study confirms positive effects of Omega-3

Amway supports new research on the benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids in the daily diet.

Marine-based omega-3 EPA and DHA are studied for their potential to reduce risk factors shown to directly affect cardiovascular disease. Amway was part of a consortium supporting a systematic evaluation of 18 randomised, controlled trials that tested for the presence of a relationship between the occurrence of cardiovascular disease events and omega-3 EPA and DHA consumption*.

Omega-3 fatty acids are a class of polyunsaturated fatty acids found primarily in marine sources such as fish, in particular salmon. For vegetarians, it can also be found in smaller quantities in flaxseeds, chia seeds and canola oil.

Two types of omega-3 fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), have been extensively researched in the food supplements industry. Specifically, omega-3 EPA and DHA are among the most extensively researched ingredients in food in terms of understanding the specific health benefits for consumers.

The recently presented research* confirmed that the intake of 1 g of omega-3 EPA and DHA acids has positive effects on reducing the risk factors for cardiovascular disease. This confirms the importance of an optimal diet for maintaining health. Food supplements, although not a replacement for a varied and balanced diet, can help optimise the daily diet.
