Back to basics: foundations and concealers

Beauty & Grooming

The key step between your skincare routine and applying colour cosmetics

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – if you want healthy radiant skin, it’s important to maintain a skincare regime that’s especially suited to your skin’s needs. However, once you complete your daily skincare routine, what do you do next? You apply your cosmetics, of course!

Here’s a little rule of thumb to keep in mind: applying your foundation is the last step of your skincare routine and the first step before applying your colour cosmetics. Your foundation, in addition to concealer and a corrector, will cover blemishes and ultimately smooth your complexion, while also providing a canvas for your makeup look of the day!

What to consider when selecting a foundation

When selecting your foundation, it’s incredibly important to consider your skin type. If you have dry skin, aim to use a foundation that provides good coverage and a lot of hydration, to avoid uneven patches. If you have an oily complexion, use a foundation that’s long-wearing with a matte or powder finish. This will keep you looking shine-free all day long! If you have combination skin – a little oily on the T-zone and a little dry around the cheeks – try using a long-wearing foundation with light, buildable coverage.

Our favourite base makeup

  1. ARTISTRY™ Ideal Radiance Illuminating CC Cream – when you apply this lightweight cream after your daily skincare routine, it will brighten and boost your skin’s radiance instantly! If you wear the CC Cream alone, it will give you sheer to medium coverage and a semi-matte finish. Otherwise, if you want stronger coverage, apply your foundation after the CC cream. Not only will your foundation seamlessly blend into your radiant complexion, it will also last longer as the CC Cream helps extend its wear. Best of all, the SPF 50 helps protect and shield skin from UV rays – perfect for summer!

  2. ARTISTRY Youth Xtend Lifting Smoothing Foundation – as soon as you’re finished with your daily skin regimen, Youth Xtend Lifting Foundation will help smooth and firm skin, giving you a youthful and vibrant look instantly. The SPF 20 will also deliver anti-ageing benefits by protecting your complexion from daylight, while the ARTISTRY Youth Xtend technology will help soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles over time.

Tip: Mix the ARTISTRY Studio Edition Bangkok Shimmering Gel into the foundation for a fabulous glimmering look.

  3. ARTISTRY EXACT FIT Perfecting Concealer – whether you look tired under the eyes or have an annoying red pimple, apply the ARTISTRY Concealer to help minimise small imperfections. Best of all, it’s long-lasting and stands up to heat and humidity.

Tip: for general red areas such as around the nose, try using the green colour corrector from the ARTISTRY Studio Tokyo Edition Correct & Perfect Face Compact – it will help counteract the redness. Finish it off by blending the foundation from the Tokyo Compact or continue using the ARTISTRY Youth Xtend Lifting Smoothing Foundation.

Hacks for an exact fit

Concealers are versatile and can do much more than only covering up imperfections. Here are just a few of our favourite handy tricks, which you can achieve with the ARTISTRY EXACT FIT Perfecting Concealer:

  1. To help reduce the appearance of dark circles, apply the concealer in the shape of a reverse triangle below your eyes. The tip of the triangle should extend out to your cheek. As you blend in the concealer, the dark rings below your eyes will fade away, giving your face a lively, radiant look.

  2. Apply the concealer to your eyelids to use as an eyeshadow primer. Notice how much longer your eyeshadow lasts when you try this.

  3. Sharpen the structure of your eyebrows by tracing the outside of your brows with the concealer and the help of a flat brush. Once you blend the edges of the concealer into your foundation, your brows will have a sharp and impressive effect.
